Tallulah Birth Story

It's a girl!

This is the birth story of Tallulah.

From my first prenatal appointment with Nikki and Sawyer, I knew they were going to be amazing parents. They were only 6-7 weeks pregnant when they contacted me to help them start planning for the birth of their baby. They were so intentional, so thoughtful and were full of great questions. It was clear they were willing to do whatever it took to give their baby the best "welcome home" party they could.

When their planned home birth turned into a medical induction at the hospital, there was definitely some disappointment. But because they had prepared so well throughout pregnancy, they were able to pivot with the unexpected turns that birth can bring and still have such a beautiful and positive birth experience.

After multiple hours of cervadil, no sleep, and then some pitocin, I got a call from Sawyer - her water broke and things were ramping up! Woohoo! They were such a good team - Sawyer actively supporting and advocating and Nikki breathing through the contractions like a champ despite how quickly things were intensifying. When Nikki began to feel pressure during contractions, her midwife agreed it was time to start pushing. A fast 40 minutes later, her dad, with the guidance of their midwife, caught beautiful Miss Tallulah!

There was a point in Nikki's labor when she said (while smiling), "Well, I am a BILLION miles away from my birth plan, but here we are!" This made me think about the fact that birth almost never goes exactly how we think it will. However, by preparing and educating ourselves, it makes the unknown possibilities feel a lot less overwhelming. This sweet little family is such a good example of that kind of resiliency.

Congratulations and well done, you two. Thank you for letting me be a part of your greatest adventure yet!
